Dear Parishioners,
I will be gone the week of the 24th from Monday to Friday, to be with our Bishop Neumann students in our yearly mission work in Gallup, New Mexico. Last year, we worked on two houses: the retreat center, the Missionaries of Charity, and the little sisters of the Poor. Honestly, the work with the sisters of Gallup for the poor was deeply humbling. Not to mention the holy sites and adoration with the Blessed Sacrament in the evening helped to bring everything into focus. Finishing the day with Christ and community tied together ever experience in Him.
I am excited to be leaving again with several of our own parish students and parents to see what God has in store for us. Each mission I have attended has helped me to live out the very words of John the Baptist, "He must increase, I must decrease." Jn 3:30 For our Savior taught that, "Whatever you do for the least of your brethren you do unto me." Mt 25:40 These mission trips are a means for us to get out of our comfort zone of what is familiar. Encountering another person in need helps to expand our hearts to see the face of Christ in our neighbor. The poor and needy are in our local community as well. As Saint Teresa of Calcutta said, "Stay where you are. Find your own Calcutta. Find the sick, the suffering, and the lonely, right where you are." So may we go on mission to our local neighbor and encounter them as another Christ.
Since this is a two-week bulletin, I want to add a note about the upcoming parish gatherings!
On June 7th St. Mary will have its dedication day celebration. A dedication day was the day a parish church was consecrated by the Bishop for the liturgical and communal life of the faithful. As such, this day is celebrated as a Solemnity (the highest level of jubilee). We will have 8 am mass at St. Mary, followed by Brunch in the park, provided freely by St. Mary's! We will also have games and live entertainment! All current and past members of St. Mary's parish are welcome to attend
Please RSVP to Gladys Wagner (402-628-5345) for a head count for Brunch.
We will also have our Corpus Christi procession that same day, June 7th , at St. Joseph's parish with Mass at 11:00 am. The procession will immediately form up and travel to the three different altars around Colon. We will then have a potluck at the potluck over at the St. Joseph Hall. Everyone is welcome to attend! On a side note, if you plan to join the procession, please plan on it being hot and windy. May God bless you all as summer
begins!
In Christ, Fr. Luke Fleck
