Dear Parishioners,

I hope you are all well with the change of weather and the harvest season well underway.

A few notes of upcoming events at the parish

All Saints Day falls on a Sunday this year and is not transferred to another day.  Because it falls on a Sunday, it is already part of the normal Sunday obligation to attend Mass.

All Souls Day Masses are on Monday, November 2nd. We will have morning Mass at 7:00am at St. Joseph and 5:30pm Mass at St. Mary for the Poor Souls in Purgatory.

Fall Cleanup day for St. Mary will be on October 29th from 1:00-3:00pm.  We are extraordinarily blessed to the the Senior class from Bishop Neumann coming to help do repairs, painting, and dirt-work that day.  They are an incredible class of students.  It is a great blessing to have them at our parish, which has supported Bishop Neumann and its mission for over 60 years!  St. Joseph has already benefited from this over the last several years and will also have Bishop Neumann students come on property that day to help clean up the grounds.

Political Elections: Check out the voters' guide from Nebraska Family Alliance at nebraskafamilyalliance.org.  An important Ballot Initiative will be Measure 442 for protecting men's and women's sports in the State of Nebraska.  Please look into the candidates and voting measures to be well informed. Remember the words of the Lord in Jeremiah, "Seek the welfare of the city to which I have exiled you; pray for it to the Lord, for upon its welfare your own depends."

Parish Elections:  As political elections are heading to the ballot box, we will also have parish elections this fall.  Every two years, the parish holds elections for new parish council members.

Current members of St. Joseph: Fr. Fleck, Richard Meduna, Kae Sanderson, Bob Meduna, Kelly Meduna, John Ell, Nicole Trutna, Adam Quinn, and Marie Gruenes.

Current members of St. Mary: Fr. Fleck, Steve Callahan, Max Heisterkamp, Kim Jirosky, Randy Pike, Mary Osterloh

The Parish Council acts as an advisory body to the pastor.  It concentrates on the parish's mission, "To foster Sacrament-nurtured disciples of Christ who live a bold and extraordinary faith, first in the family, then flowing out into our community."  It further focuses on evangelization, catechesis, liturgy, and pastoral priorities.  It helps the pastor identify pastoral needs in the parish, help him plan pastoral programs, improve pastoral ministries, and evaluate the effectiveness of existing programs and services.  It is not a legislative body that enacts policy or issue decrees.  We will be voting on two new members for each parish.  Please feel free to provide me with names of people of people you think would be good at going on mission for our parish.

I am grateful to all our members of St. Joseph and St. Mary's parish councils and want to personally thank Bob Meduna, Kelly Meduna, Kim Jirosky, and Randy Pike for their years of service to the parishes!

Keep fighting Evil,

Fr. Luke Fleck
