Dear Parishioners,
It is with great joy that the Cardinals have elected our new Pope Leo XIV! Born in Chicago, IL, USA, Robert Francis Prevost is the first Pope from the USA. An Augustinian (OSA) religious, he was ordained a priest in 1982. In 2015, he was elevated to Bishop of Chiclayo, Peru. Pope Francis appointed him prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops in January 2023, a powerful position responsible for selecting bishops, and he was named a Cardinal that same year.
Therefore, we join with the whole Church in praying for our new Holy Father and asking the Holy Spirit to pour out His grace upon him.
Lord, source of eternal life and truth, give to your shepherd a spirit of courage and right judgment, a spirit of knowledge and love. By governing with fidelity those entrusted to his care, may he, as successor to the Apostle Peter and Vicar of Christ, build your Church into a sacrament of unity, love and peace for all the world. Amen.
In Christ,
Fr. Luke Fleck
Pastor of St. Joseph, Colon and St. Mary, Cedar Bluffs
