Dear Parishioners,
It is with great joy that we welcome six women to the Confraternity of Christian Mothers! Father Joseph Tuscan, OFM Cap. presented a beautiful mission these last few days on Christian motherhood and family. Mothers play a vital role in upholding Christ’s presence in the world through their high mission to the family. They nurture souls, teach their children, serve and strengthen their families, model Christian self-sacrifice, and witness to the unfathomable parental love God bears for each of His children. I am grateful to our many women in the parish who continue to witness the Christian life to their families. For those who do not know, the Confraternity of Christian Mothers is a pious association intended for mothers, which has for its special object the promotion of the good Christian and Catholic education of their children. The members join their hearts in love with the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin, the Mother of Sorrows, and unite under her patronage in mutual prayer and solicitude for the welfare of their children and families. The feast day of the Confraternity is Our Lady of Sorrows on September 15th.
On another note, I would like to extend a personal invitation to join me on a mission trip to Mexico City this February 5-10. Fr. Allan Phan and I are leading a group to the Hope of the Poor mission in Mexico City. Craig Johring runs the mission. Craig grew up in Nebraska and now lives and works in Mexico City. He founded Hope of the Poor with Danny Leger to impact the world in how the poor are viewed and treated. More importantly, Craig works with the poor to help them overcome crippling psychological conditions, combat drug addictions, and make the journey from homeless and helpless to becoming hopeful and productive members of society.
I hope that you will seriously consider joining us on this mission to encounter the face of Christ in the poor and neglected. I visited two years ago and was deeply moved by the experience. On the mission, we will stay with Religious sisters at their convent, about a 15-minute walk to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Craig will introduce us to those who have lived on the streets and are now beginning a new life due to his mission. There will be time for visiting historical sites in Mexico and for a little shopping as well
I am having an informational meeting in September for those who are interested. Contact Fr. Phan or me if you are interested in joining. In the meantime, getting your passport up to date is essential for travel. It lasts for 10 years and is a great asset to have ready. Plus, I will have more pilgrimages I will be inviting you on in the future!
In Christ,
Fr. Luke Fleck,
